Over the temple, then inside

You fly for about 40 minutes over the West Bank at sunrise, then a guide takes you through the Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut's temple before lunch. Pick it to see the terraces of Deir el-Bahari from the air and on foot on the same morning.

Hot Air Balloon, Valley of the Kings & Hatshepsut

About this experience

Two experiences in one booking. Before dawn a car takes you to the Nile, a motorboat crosses to the West Bank, and a bus drives to the launch field. The listing promises a 40-minute flight (the overview says 45) and a flight certificate. Back on the ground, a guide takes you to the Valley of the Kings (2 hours) and Hatshepsut's temple (1 hour), passing the Colossi of Memnon. The tour ends at about 1 pm.

The $130 does not cover the sites. The listing excludes the Valley of the Kings entrance fee, EGP 750 (the official Valley of the Kings page), and plan on paying Hatshepsut at the gate too, EGP 440 (the Ministry price list). One wrote in capitals: "you still have to pay entrance fees". The balloon part is shared, not private, in practice: guests describe baskets of about 20.

Weather decides the flight. The Civil Aviation Authority cancels the morning's flights when wind is too strong, and it suspended balloon flights from 1 June to 31 August 2026. If your flight is cancelled, the listing refunds only $30 per person. No route is guaranteed: some mornings drift over Hatshepsut's temple, others over the fields. Cameras are not allowed in the basket; phones are fine. Children under 6 cannot fly.

We got picked up at 3:50am for the balloon ride which is worth it !!! Such an amazing experience. This part of the tour is not private. [...] PLEASE REMEMBER YOU STILL HAVE TO PAY ENTRANCE FEES.

The ride was magical, we saw the sunrise over the Nile and and rise to 2000ft, sometimes dipping down and skimming the top of crops! We floated over Queen Hatshepsut's temple, what a view!

I had heard about horrible landings but ours was as smooth as it could be, thanks to our captain Mohammed. Then we had the visit to the Valley of the Kings and the Hatshepsut temple. [...] Thanks to her planning we managed to avoid the crowds at both the places which are otherwise very popular.

Tips before you book

  • Don't buy the video sold at launch before you've seen a sample. One guest called it mostly stock footage.
  • Carry enough Egyptian pounds or a card for EGP 1,190 per adult in tickets.
  • Wear layers. It's cold on the river at 5 am, and the burner is hot above your head.
  • Book for the first days of your stay. If the flight is cancelled, you have time to try again.
