Private Luxor Day Trip from Marsa Alam

About this experience

Marsa Alam is further from Luxor than Hurghada, about 5 hours by road on the listing, and guests report anything from 3.5 to over 6 hours depending on the hotel and checkpoint waits. Pickup is at 3 or 4 am. In Luxor your guide joins you, and the plan is the Valley of the Kings (2 hours), Hatshepsut's temple (1 hour), the Colossi of Memnon and Karnak (2 hours), with lunch at a restaurant. Most groups are back at the hotel around 9 pm.

The price includes the entrance tickets for every paid site, the guide and lunch. That matters: Karnak is EGP 600 at Karnak, plus EGP 750 for the Valley of the Kings and EGP 440 for Hatshepsut (the official Valley of the Kings page; the Ministry price list). Tips, soft drinks at lunch and a felucca crossing (offered on many days) are extra. The listing shows $121, on sale for $109 until 14 November 2026.

This is one of the best-rated Red Sea day trips, 4.9 from 153 reviews, and guests describe it as long but worth it. Some days include a papyrus or alabaster stop; one guest skipped it simply by asking. With 10 hours on the road, ask for the West Bank first while it is cool.

We travelled with 2 kids, 9 and 8 years old. The van was spot on at pick up time at 3am. We slept half yhe way to Luxor as we had the van to ourselves. [...] On the way back they made sure we got back for around 9pm [...]

We were picked up on time at 4:00 in the morning. At 9.00 am we reached the Karnak Temple. [...] Besides Karnak, we also visited the Valley of Kings and the temple of Hatshepsut. In between we were still lunch integrated with a nice half hour boat trip on the Nile.

Although it was a 4am start, it was worth it! Communication was great, they kept us informed about what was happening and answered any queries. [...] We also went on a boat across the Nile, which was a lovely cool break on a warm day.

The journey from Marsa Alam is demanding (about 5 hours to go and 5 hours to return) but it is worth it. [...] Bring a hat, sunscreen, water and snacks because the "bars" are very expensive (6 euros for a small packet of biscuits).

Tips before you book

  • Pack breakfast and snacks. Roadside cafes are slow and expensive.
  • Bring Egyptian pounds for toilets, which often don't take cards, and for tips.
  • If your hotel is far south of Marsa Alam, ask the operator for your real drive time before booking.
  • Ask for the West Bank before lunch. Karnak is easier in the afternoon heat than the open valley.
