Hurghada to Hatshepsut and back

A private car leaves your Hurghada hotel at about 5 am, and in Luxor an Egyptologist takes you through the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut's temple, Karnak and a felucca ride on the Nile. Pick it because it's your own car and guide: you nap on the desert road and skip the group bus stops.

Private Luxor Day Trip from Hurghada

About this experience

Hurghada is roughly 4 hours by road from Luxor, so this is a 12 to 16 hour day whatever you book. Legacy Tour sends a private car to your hotel reception at about 5 am. You meet your guide on the edge of Luxor. The plan is the Valley of the Kings (2 hours), Hatshepsut's temple (1 hour), a 10-minute stop at the Colossi of Memnon, lunch, Karnak (2 hours) and a short felucca ride on the Nile before the drive back. Guests report the order changes; some start at Karnak.

The price includes the entry tickets, lunch, the boat and bottled water. Drinks at lunch and tips are extra. As everywhere, the Valley of the Kings ticket covers three tombs; Tutankhamun is EGP 700 on top on the official Ministry page, and one guest paid by card only. Send a copy of every passport and your room number on WhatsApp the day before: the operator needs them for the travel permits on the desert road.

Be realistic about the time on site. With 8 hours on the road you get about 1 hour at Hatshepsut's temple and 2 at the tombs, and one guest felt "a bit rushed during the visits". Several mention an alabaster workshop stop that isn't in the programme. If you have a night to spare, sleeping in Luxor gives you the same sites at a fraction of the cost with the West Bank day tour.

  • Private car, driver and Egyptologist for your group only
  • Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut's temple and Karnak in one day
  • Entry tickets, lunch and a felucca ride included
  • Sleep on the way: guests report a coffee and toilet stop each way
  • Free cancellation up to 24 hours before

What guests say

★★★★★

Early start 5am long drive through the desert in nice air-conditioned car. Met with our guide Samira in Luxor. [...] At the Valley of the Kings visited five tombs ( 2 had to pay extra for as advertised £27 for two adults but well worth it will need a credit or debit card to pay no cash).

Just don’t worry if they need to stop and swap drivers as it’s a long way! [...] A clear favourite, was the boat trip across the Nile and the visit to the incredible temple of Karnak [...]

Beware that there is no breakfast on this tour, just a break at a gas station after 2 hrs around 0700, where they have coffee and drinks, but no real food/bread, just chips and chocolate, so bring some bread.

We visited 3 tombs in the Valley of the Kings and had the option to do extra but didn’t bother. Then we visited Hapshetsut’s temple, which is just insanely amazing. [...] Handy tip, make sure you have some Egyptian notes [...] to tip people such as the driver, tour guide, boat driver, and to pay for the drinks at lunch.

Tips before you book

  • Send the passport copies and room number on WhatsApp the day before. No copies, no permit.
  • Pack breakfast, a pillow and a phone charger. You'll spend about 8 hours in the car.
  • Bring Egyptian pound notes for tips and lunch drinks. Coins are no use.
  • Carry a card for Tutankhamun's ticket at the valley; one guest found that window took cards only.
  • Wear shoes you can climb in. Hatshepsut's ramps and the tomb corridors add up.
